Google Photos offers multiple ways to find your photos, from classic keyword searches to conversational summaries in results with Ask Photos, if you opt into this experience.
You can also use Search to find different features and collections in Google Photos, like People & pets, Albums, Documents, and more.
Important:
- Some features aren't available in all geographic regions, all domains, or all account types.
- To search your photos using Ask Photos, you'll first need to opt in to Gemini features in Photos. Learn how to start using Ask Photos.
Understand the classic search experience
Important: The Ask Photos feature is available only on mobile devices. To experience a conversational way to search and organize your gallery:
- Open the Google Photos app on your Android device or iPhone.
- Make sure the feature is turned on in your settings. Learn how to opt in to Ask Photos.
Use this experience to find:
- All the videos of a person.
- A photo of a pet’s vet invoice by the vet clinic’s name.
- Pictures of colorful sunsets in Mexico.
Search your photos
- On your computer, go to photos.google.com/search.
- In the box at the top, enter what you want to find, for example:
- You can use phrases like ‘Alice and me laughing,’ ‘colorful sunsets in Mexico,’ ‘Emma at the playground,’ and ‘drinking tea by the fireplace.’
- You can only search with a name or nickname if you’ve labeled people or pets. Learn how to set up Face Groups.
- To search for yourself using ‘me,’ make sure to set your face as ‘me’ in the ‘people or pets’ section. Learn how to label your face group.
- You can use quotation marks in your search if you want to find exact-text matches in filenames, camera models, captions, or text within photos. If you don’t use quotation marks, you’ll get a wider range of results not limited to text.
- You can use phrases like ‘Alice and me laughing,’ ‘colorful sunsets in Mexico,’ ‘Emma at the playground,’ and ‘drinking tea by the fireplace.’
- On the search results page, you can find the best match and most recent results that fit your search.
- The most relevant results to your search are shown at the top. To view all of the photos in this section, click More.
- Below, relevant photos and videos are shown in reverse chronological order.

Tips:
- When using classic search, your results may include unsaved photos and videos from shared albums or conversations. You’ll find a shared content badge at the bottom left of the shared item.
- To exclude the items shared with you from your search results: At the top right of the search results page, click More

- An ownership tag shows on the shared item.
- To show which album or conversation an item is from: At the top left, click the owner Profile picture or Initial.
