Showcase in-store products on Google Search & Maps

Important: This service was called Pointy before, and it's now fully integrated into Google. The Pointy app is now the Local Inventory app.

You can add in-store products to Google automatically. This can help attract local customers to your brick and mortar store. It’s simple and available at no charge.

When you add in-store products, it may help:

  • Increase your store’s visibility. Your in-store products can show in search results and on your Business Profile on Google Search and Maps, so customers know what you sell before they visit your store.
  • Show customers what’s available in your store. Many customers use Google to check whether stores near them stock the products they want. When you add your products to Google, they can easily check if the product is available in your store.

Check if you're eligible

Important: Some features and functions might only be available in certain countries or regions.

You can automatically add products to Google from your Business Profile if you’re a merchant that:

  • Is in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, or Australia.
  • Has a physical store that uses a wired barcode scanner or compatible POS system and sells products with manufacturer (UPC/EAN) barcodes.
  • Has a verified Business Profile.
    • If you try to sign up but are redirected, sign in to the account associated with your Business Profile.
  • Is in an eligible vertical.

How to add your in-store products automatically

You can automatically add your in-store products to Google at no charge. Your product feeds are created for you.

Here's how you can do it:

  • The Local Inventory app for your point of sale system: You can use the app to sync products available in your point of sale (POS) system to Google. It works with many POS systems, like Clover, Square, and Lightspeed. If the app isn’t available for your system, you can manually add a product. Check the list of compatible POS systems.
  • In-store inventory from delivery partners: You can use product sources from delivery partners like Instacart, DoorDash, and Uber Eats. Your in-store inventory from those partners automatically shows on Google. You can opt out during the initial discovery period or unlink existing sources. Learn how to manage your product sources.

Tip: If you have an issue with the Local Inventory app, you’ll also have the option to manually add products with the Product Editor.

Understand required barcodes

If you create your own barcodes or labels, they don’t appear in our databases, so we can’t find images or descriptions for your products. Our database contains product info associated with manufacturer (UPC/EAN) barcodes.

If you produce your own barcode labels, you can add your products automatically. To add your products automatically:

  1. Place both the UPC/EAN and your barcode labels on the product.
  2. Scan both labels at the POS system.

Learn where your in-store products can show on Google

Your in-store products may show on Google Search, Google Maps, and the Shopping tab. Free local listings show your products and store information to nearby shoppers on Google Search, Maps, and other places in Google.

How to opt-out of in-store inventory on Business Profile

You can use inventory data from delivery partners like Instacart, DoorDash, and Uber Eats to automatically showcase your in-store products on Google. You can opt out of or unlink these sources from your Business Profile.

Opt out from pending product sources

Important: If you use product sources from delivery partners, you’ll get a notification and have the option to decline the automatic link on your Business Profile. Once linked, your in-store products automatically show on Search and Maps.

  1. Go to your Google Business Profile Manager.
  2. On the left, select Product sources.
  3. On the "Pending" tab, select the pending product sources you want to decline.
    • To opt out in bulk, select multiple sources.
  4. Select Decline and then CONFIRM.

Opt out via Google Search

  1. Go to your Business Profile.
  2. Click Edit products.
  3. On the card, click Unlink.
  4. On the pop up window, click Unlink.
    • Any existing inventory from that source is removed from Google within 48 hours.
    • If you have automatically linked stores, unlinking them will remove all automated inventory.

Opt out via the Business Profile Manager

  1. Go to your Google Business Profile Manager.
  2. Click Product Sources.
  3. On the automatically linked "Merchant Center" source card, click Unlink.
    • When you click "Unlink" a confirmation dialog explains that unlinking this source will stop automatically synced local products from appearing on Google Search, Maps, and Shopping for this store location.
  4. To complete your opt-out, click Unlink.

Unlink existing product sources

If your Business Profile shows products through these sources from delivery partners and you no longer want to use them, you can unlink them.

  1. Go to your Google Business Profile Manager.
  2. On the left, select Product sources and then Linked sources.
  3. Select the product sources you want to unlink.
    • To unlink in bulk, select multiple sources.
  4. Select Unlink and then CONFIRM.
    • Any existing inventory from that source is removed from Google within 48 hours.

When you unlink, the inventory data from that source no longer shows on Google Search or Maps. If you decide to show local products again in the future, you will need to manually link your profiles and verify your inventory data.

Understand prohibited & restricted categories

We consider certain store types, such as guns and tobacco stores, to be sensitive. These store types may have display restrictions, and restricted products aren’t shown.

If your store mainly sells products with display restrictions, this service might not be a good fit. The store can still sign up, but we only show items that aren’t prohibited or restricted.

Example: If a tobacco store signs up, tobacco-based products don’t show. However, non-tobacco products, such as candles and lighters, would show.
