Tap to share content with others

You can tap phones to share contact information, photos, videos, links, location, and more with nearby Android devices.

Important: 

  • Tap to share is available for Pixel 6 and newer phones running Android 17 and higher.
  • Tap to share won’t be available for apps used in a Work Profile.

Tap to share your contact information

  1. Overlap the top of both unlocked phones with their screens facing up and visible to you.
  2. Keep phones together until they glow.
  3. You can choose which contact information fields in your contact card to share. You can also choose to only receive the other person’s contact card. 
  4. Once you receive the other person’s contact card, you can choose to save it to your device’s Contacts app. 
  5. To cancel, move the two devices away from each other.

Tip: If your contact information isn’t up to date, you can manage and update your contact information from the Contacts app on your device. 

Tap to share other content

You can tap to share photos, videos, files, website links, and more with others. 

From the Share menu

  1. Open the content you want to share.
  2. Tap Share .
  3. Overlap the top of both unlocked phones with their screens facing up and visible to you.
  4. Keep phones together until they glow.
  5. Wait for the other device to accept your sharing request.
  6. To cancel, move the two devices away from each other.

From the Quick Share page

  1. On the Quick Share page, select the content you want to share.
  2. Overlap the top of both unlocked phones with their screens facing up and visible to you.
  3. Keep phones together until they glow.
  4. Wait for the other device to accept your sharing request.
  5. To cancel, move the two devices away from each other.

Find content you received 

You can find content you received with Tap to share in your Quick Share folder.

  1. Open the default Files app on your device.
  2. Tap Downloads and then Quick Share.

Turn off Tap to share

Tap to share is on by default except for devices that have managed accounts.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Google and then Quick Share.
  3. Turn off “Tap to share”. 

Fix problems using Tap to share

If you’re not able to use Tap to share:

  1. Try overlapping more of the phone screens.
  2. Remove any thick phone cases that you might have.
  3. Try tapping both phones back to back.
  4. Make sure that both devices have Near Field Communication (NFC) turned on. To turn on NFC:
    1. On your Android device, open the Settings app.
    2. In the search bar, type 'NFC'.
    3. Make sure that the NFC setting is toggled on.
  5. Check where the NFC antenna is located on your device.
